We often talk about the ingredients necessary for a healthy colon, but what about the ingredients necessary for, say, a Giant Colon?  One like the very pink, very eye-catching star of The Giant Colon Tour?

The Giant Colon has now visited about 30 cities, and you may be wondering when it is coming to your town, too. We want every major city in Canada to take a potentially lifesaving walk through the Colon, so we have a lot of work to do. Organizing the Giant Colon Tour  is, literally, a full time job!  We also enlist the help of dozens of incredibly hardworking volunteers in every city we visit.

We received a question on Twitter about when we would be coming to Vancouver.  We’re itching to come to the West Coast!  There are a number of events we’re currently considering as a venue for the Giant Colon, including health fairs, trade shows and the Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon and 5k in June.  Ultimately, the venues we are able to visit depend on several other factors:

1. Sponsorship and funding. Much of the Giant Colon Tour’s success is dependent upon generous financial support from our sponsors.

2. The availability of partnership opportunities-with hospitals, foundations, provincial screening programs, cancer centres, etc. The Giant Colon Tour is an operation of epic proportions, and we can’t do it without help from our friends!

3. The availability of appropriate venues. The Giant Colon is, well, giant!  A clear, indoor 40 x 40 foot space is required to house the exhibit, and Dr. Preventino’s multimedia displays inside require convenient electrical access.

Rest assured, the Giant Colon will continue to mystify audiences across Canada. We will keep you abreast of all of our new city updates here. We can’t wait to come to the East and West coasts!  In the meantime, there may be other events in your city where you can support the CCAC and meet some of our dedicated volunteers.

If you would like to help bring the Giant Colon to your community, we’d love to hear from you. Contact our National Director of Development  (gailg@colorectal-cancer.ca) to find out how you can help with researching venues and finding local sponsorship.
